WHO WE ARE
Our objective is to offer moral and material assistance to children who are orphaned, with HIV/AIDS, are mentally and/or physically handicapped. We also provide support incentives to the carers and families of such children.
Note: In 2010 nearly half of the estimated 2.5 million orphans are infected by HIV annually due to AIDS.
WHY WE DO IT
The large majority of Ugandan children face daunting challenges, especially in the north which still suffers from he effects of a previous long war. As well, throughout the country various diseases and HIV/AIDS have taken a heavy toll on adults and children alike, resulting in a huge population of orphans. Although primary education is free, children are required to pay for books, uniforms, school equipment and examination fees. Consequently, as poverty is widespread, large numbers of children do not finish schooling. This is especially true for orphans. a particularly tragic consequence for disabled children is that many are taken and abandoned by their birth parents.
WHAT WE DO
Before we obtained official charity status, we were largely dependent on funding from internal family sources. We are now engaged in an aggressive funding drive to fulfill our stated mission and objectives. Our future plans include the following:
educational support - for all children within our programs, particularly primary education. We also intend to provide opportunities for secondary and vocational education and training.
family support and empowerment - with particular emphasis on counseling and assisting families who care for disabled and HIV/AIDS children, including testing and treatment of those affected. Families will also be provided with the skills necessary for economic development, including business planning, micro-financial and management skills.
youth support - developed by our youth committees they will provide additional valuable on-going grass roots initiatives and programs.
local effectiveness - in each of the 4 branches a strong network of local committees are formed to determine the demand for services needed.
